sick
i'm sick today! woke up for seminary and felt super cold. i was shivering badly, my teeth were chattering, my voice was a croak. mum said i didn't need to go school today, and so i went back to sleep, teeth still chattering. woke up at 630sm for family prayer, and my temp had gone down! but it's like, too late to get ready for school? so i went back to sleep. BUT, finally woke up at 11, and my temp had rose again. slept most of the day, but still feeling a little woozy. oh but i'm-oh-so-lucky that the class didn't watch Shakespeare in Love finish today! yay so i didn't miss anything. lit test tomorrow and i don't have my book to study for it. must call jiamei soon!

movie review, painting of blocks and pics, choir
i was searching for movie reviews for english, and i found one that made me MAD. it was on Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow, and that is a movie i really enjoyed. RAHH.

Sky Captain starts as it means to go on — with the semi-destruction of Manhattan by giant flying robots. Later on, we meet giant underwater robots, giant mutated dinosaurs and the giant recreated head of Sir Laurence Olivier. It’s that kind of movie — everything but the kitchen sink’s thrown in. And even then, it would be a giant kitchen sink with laser cannons for taps.
It’s director Kerry Conran’s dream project, six years in the making, using actors shot on greenscreen and later composited into pre-rendered CG backgrounds that constitute a fusion of all his major influences, from 1930s and ’40s serials, to the Superman cartoons of the Fleischer brothers and the cityscapes of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.
Sky Captain is unlike anything else in multiplexes this year. But for all the precise digital splendour of the art direction, someone left out the spontaneity and humanity. This was meant to show George Lucas how this sort of thing should be done; but Conran instead makes all the same mistakes.
Namely, he leaves the actors out to dry, suffocated by the greenscreen blanket and unaided by an awful script. As Sky Captain, a role that cries out for Our Jude’s natural brand of dangerous charm, Law is instead repressed and uncomfortable. Still, it can’t be easy acting opposite a blank canvas. Or Gwyneth Paltrow, as she’s otherwise known. For she’s spectacularly miscast here — whiny and stilted when she should be sassy, sexy, and all-action.
Which, handily enough, sums up the movie itself. Like the old serials, this tries to rocket from one action set-piece to another, but save for a couple of inspired moments, there’s little in the way of breathless excitement.
Internet fanboys have already clutched it to their portly man-bosoms, but then, this is a movie precisely calibrated, by one of their own, to appeal to them. Simply put, if giant flying robots don’t float your boat, then move along because — despite the best efforts of Conran and his technical team — there really is nothing to see here.

it was written by a certain reviewer from Empire Magazine [UK], and from now on, i shall intensely dislike him. HARRUMPH!!!
ok, on to nicer things. the blocks in my area are being repainted and not too long ago, they were painting my side of the block!

ain't this cool? this was outside my living room.

outside my bedroom!

the rope attaching the platform thing was so close, i couldn't resist not touching it!
and outside abish's room!
haha all this was taken secretly. hopefully they didn't notice :D

this was my porridge couple of weeks back. i have absolutely no idea how, but mum poured the soy sauce and it acidentally made a face! it's so cute.

i wrote this after bio lesson one day. cos molly was talking about species of i-can't-remember-what and she said "humans are homosapiens. ok girls? remember that ah, homosapiens." she's HIGHLY AMUSING.

this was our choir souvenirs during CCA fair! i am positively sure i made those two, cos i remembered making two really solid ones in these two colours. yay.

oh no most of my sat is nearly gone, and i still have to study for bio test! and my future sat mornings will be choir practices! goodbye sleep+bed+quilt+pillow, and hello choir. dang. oh we've been given our SYF positions, and i'm standing at the back now, with janice and frenchfry! but i'm so short, how can any one see me? and choir u is changed too. it looks wierd-funny. Jaakobin still remains my favourite SYF song. teeheehee :]
